Rash of South Side Armed Robberies Prompts Alert

Men accosted people as they walked to or from their car, police said.

Police are looking for several men accused of robbing South Side residents at gunpoint of everything from money to car keys to cars.

Calumet Area detectives said at least six armed robberies have occurred between State Street and Vernon Avenue from the 7100 to 7500 blocks over a month-long period.

The men accosted people as they walked to or from their car, police said.

One of the robbers would approach a victim, take out a gun, and state "give me everything you got," "give it up," or "give me your money."

Victims had their pockets searched for money. Some had their car keys and vehicles taken.

The men are black, between the ages of 17 and 30, police said. They stand between 5 feet, 5 inches and 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weigh between 120 and 200 pounds, the alert said.
