A pilot was killed when a small plane crashed Sunday night in a suburb southwest of Chicago.

The crash happened about 8 p.m. in the 15600 block of Griswold Springs Road in unincorporated Plano, according to a statement from the Kendall County Sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office along with Little Rock and Sandwich firefighters discovered the deceased pilot and debris from the plane, according to the statement. The male’s name was not released of of 5:30 a.m. Monday.

Officials said it took them a while to find the wreckage because of the conditions in the area. There was no fire associated with the crash, they said.

"We've got standing corn almost everywhere we are. There's a creek area. So it's hilly, it's muddy, and it was a difficult process," said Little Rock Fox Fire Protection District Chief Greg Witek.

Illinois State Police and the FAA were investigating the cause of the crash.
