A Plainfield man was arrested on allegations of soliciting underage sex in a sting operation by the Crete Police Department earlier this week.
John K. Martynus, 39, allegedly communicated with a 13-year-old female on the Internet for the purpose of meeting and engaging in a sexual relationship with her, police said. The girl, however, was an undercover officer.
According to Crete officers, "Martynus drove his vehicle to a fast food restaurant and contacted the undercover officer via his smart phone and asked to meet for the purpose of having sex."
Sergeant Hill and other officers approached the vehicle and took Martynus into custody.
"His vehicle and smart phone were seized, and after receiving his Miranda warnings, the subject fully confessed that he had initiated the meeting in an attempt to have consensual sexual intercourse with the thirteen (13) year old female," according to the report.
Martynus works for the Will County Health Department. He's also a mental health youth counselor and an Illinois High School Association coach and referee.
The Will County States Attorneys Office charged Mr. Martynus with Indecent Solicitation of a Child, Traveling to Meet a Minor, and Child Grooming.
He is to appear in court in Joliet, Illinois on Wednesday December 8.
