Person Taken Into Custody After Eight-Hour Barricade in Wheaton

Police say the neighborhood and community was not in danger

A suicidal person was taken into custody after a barricade situation lasted nearly eight hours Monday morning in west suburban Wheaton.

Officers responded to a call of a suicidal person barricaded inside a home on East Liberty Drive at about 2:25 a.m., according to Wheaton police.

A few minutes later, family members were allowed to leave the home, a statement from police said. Several neighborhood homes were also evacuated.

At about 10 a.m., the person inside surrendered and was taken into custody, police said.

“At no time was the neighborhood or community in danger,” police said.
