Person Dies After Being ‘Pinned' Under CTA Train in Evanston: Officials

A man died after being pinned under a Chicago Transit Authority Purple Line train in Evanston Friday afternoon, police said.

Purple Line service was suspended from Howard to Linden Friday afternoon for the medical emergency at the Foster station during rush hour, officials said.

Trains in both directions were halted as firefighters responded the scene about 4:30 p.m.

Police said witnesses reported the man jumped from the platform in front of the train and the incident is being investigated as a suicide. The man has not been identified but is believed to be about 20-30 years old.

Authorities remained at the scene as of 5:15 p.m. as they "await the arrival of heavy equipment with which to extricate the victim."

Officials said to use the 201 Central bus as an alternate mode of transportation. Foster was closed between Maple and Sherman.

This is a developing story, check back for details.
