Person on a Bike Fatally Hit by Train on Chicago's Southwest Side

A person riding a bike was fatally struck by a train on the city's Southwest Side Sunday night, officials confirmed. 

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department. A man, believed to be in his mid-50s, was riding a bike near the intersection of W 59th St and S Narragansett Ave in the city's Garfield Ridge neighborhood when he was hit by a train, authorities said. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials confirmed. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality. 

Further details about the victim's identity or the circumstances leading up to the incident were not released.
