Person Hit by Metra Train in Suburban Bartlett

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Metra train Monday morning on the Milwaukee District / West Line in northwest suburban Bartlett, police said.

Inbound train No. 2212 struck the person about 6:40 a.m. at the Bartlett station, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. The train was scheduled to depart Roselle at 6:54 a.m. and didn’t have any passengers yet.

The pedestrian — a male whose age was not known — was dead at the scene, according to Bartlett Police Sgt. Geoffrey Pretkelis. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

Both inbound and outbound train movement was halted in the area and extensive delays were expected. Outbound passengers traveling to the Bartlett, National Street, Elgin and Big Timber stations were urged to seek alternate transportation.
