Person Fatally Struck by Train in Rogers Park

A woman was pronounced dead at the scene

A person died after being struck by a CTA train Thursday in Rogers Park on the North Side.

Officers responded to a “medical emergency” on the tracks about 5:45 p.m. at the Jarvis Avenue CTA Station, 1523 W. Jarvis Ave., and found a female on the tracks who was pronounced dead at the scene, Chicago police said.

The woman is believed to have intentionally jumped in front of the train, police said.

CTA suspended service on the Red and Purple lines about 5:40 p.m., stating that Red Line trains would only operate between Granville Avenue and 95th Street. Purple Line trains will operate between the South Boulevard and Linden Avenue stops and the Belmont Avenue stop and the Loop.

Shuttle buses are available to provide connection service through the affected area, the agency said.
