With the Bears on the clock at the draft in just two months, it's time to start looking at prospects who could be wearing the navy and orange this fall. First up, Alabama's D.J. Fluker, who met with Bears staff at the combine on Friday.
Fluker is an offensive tackle who is all about power. Though his 40 yard dash time of 5.39 won't make any cheetahs worry about their records being broken, it's coupled with his 339-lb. frame. For Alabama, he's been a boon to their running game. Fluker can control the edge, which has been a problem on the Bears' line.
But what has the combine buzzing is Fluker's work ethic. He told reporters, "Every day is a work day."
"(I sell) my passion for the game, first of all," Fluker said. "I bring energy to the table, every day, every practice, on weekends, gameday, that's what I do. I take pride in my blocking, but I'm trying to refine every technique to my game."
Though his career at Alabama has been at tackle, he's open to playing any position on the line. That's a plus for the Bears' line that was reshuffled several times in 2012 because of injuries and bad performance. His performance against the run is also a plus for a team that has a long-term investment in Matt Forte.
The biggest thing Fluker would bring to the Bears is energy. In addition to being a tireless worker, he's the kind of player who inspires his teammates by his actions.
