Pepper Spray Sends 10 Students to Hospital

Fellow student blamed for spraying substance

Ten students were taken to area hospitals after emergency crews responded to a pepper spray incident at a Northwest Side high school Tuesday afternoon.

A student allegeldy sprayed the substance in a third floor classroom at Prosser Career Academy, 2148 N. Long Ave., prompting an EMS Plan 1 to be called at about 12:40 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight. A Level 1 HazMat response was also called.

The affected students were transported in good condition, but each complained of breathing problems, Fire Media Director Larry Langford said.

Five students were taken to Our Lady of Resurrection Medical Center, three to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park and two to Saint Mary Medical Center.

Langford said the school was not evacuated.
