Funeral for Fallen Chicago Police Commander Set for Saturday

The funeral for fallen Chicago Police Cmdr. Paul Bauer will be held Saturday morning, police officials announced.

The funeral will take place at 10 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood, Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said.

A wake will be held from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday at the church, located in the 600 block of West 37th Street.

"As Superintendent of Police, I encourage all Department members to join in paying tribute to Commander Paul R. Bauer at the funeral services," Johnson said in a statement.

Parking was restricted in the blocks around Nativity in preparation for the services.

Cmdr. Bauer was shot to death while assisting a tactical team in “apprehending a suspicious person” at the Thompson Center in downtown Chicago on Tuesday afternoon.

His death has been ruled a homicide, and a suspect has been charged in the murder.
