Pau Gasol Confirms He's Leaving Bulls on Twitter

The Bulls have lost another high-profile free agent, as power forward Pau Gasol took to Twitter to confirm his decision to join a new team

The Chicago Bulls have lost another player to free agency this off season, as power forward Pau Gasol has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs.

Gasol, who signed as a free agent with the Bulls prior to the 2014-15 season, revealed the decision to sign with San Antonio in a Twitter post.

"After many days of a lot of thinking, I've decided to join the @spurs!Looking forward to this new chapter with the best aspirations," he tweeted.

In his two seasons with the Bulls, Gasol averaged 17.6 points and 11.4 rebounds per game, with the latter total representing his best performance with a team in his long NBA career.

After the 2015-16 season, Gasol opted out of the third year of his contract with the Bulls after the team missed the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade. The big man was still on Chicago’s radar despite the decision, but instead he opted to sign with a team that had pursued him aggressively the last time he was on the free-agent market.

Gasol’s arrival in San Antonio comes at a time when the team is dealing with a lot of uncertainty about its future. The Spurs had pushed hard to try to lure Kevin Durant down to San Antonio before the star signed with the Golden State Warriors, and with Tim Duncan mulling retirement, the Spurs could be looking at some serious changes this season.

It’s unclear what Gasol’s departure means for the Bulls, as there are still rumors that the team is shopping Taj Gibson on the trade market. They’ll need a new starting power forward for the coming year, and the market has begun to dry up as players like Al Horford have found new teams already.
