“Celebrity” Jungle Men Protect Patti

Celebrity guys vote to keep Patti Blagojevich in Costa Rica for another week

The former first lady of Illinois has survived the first round of eliminations in the reality series "I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here."

Patti Blagojevich had little face time n the second of the show's episodes Tuesday, but it must have been enough to keep her out of trouble.

And she has the boys to thank for it. The jungle boys, her fellow contestants on the show, who were given 20 seconds to make a decision and unanimously voted to keep the Chicago native in the jungle.

It begs the question: Is Rod jealous?

In a behind-the-scenes interview that Patti did with NBC prior to leaving for Costa Rica, she implied that her husband might be jealous of her time in Costa Rica, but only because it was something he wanted to do.

She said her husband was really interested in competing in the reality show and that the show's producers had shown a great interest in him.  But, former Gov. Rod Blagojevich was unable to participate after a judge ordered that he could not leave the country while awaiting trial on fraud charges in Chicago.

So, Patti stepped up in an effort to bring some money into the family's diminished accounts, as the beleagured Gov stays home to keep an eye on the couple's two daughters and, as she told NBC, "root" from her from the family's Ravenswood home.

Note: At an event on Wednesday, Alderman Dick Mell, Patti's father, said that he couldn't bring himself to watch his daughter on the show.

"It's too painful" he said, adding that he also thinks "it's a cheap shot" that the Chicago charity "Bear Necessities" won't accept her donation earned on the reality show.
