Patrick Sharp Battling in Round of 16 for NHL 14 Cover

The 31-year old winger is dueling Columbus' Sergei Bobrovsky in the contest

The Chicago Blackhawks' Patrick Sharp is currently in the running to be on the cover of EA Sports’ newest hockey game, NHL 14.

Voting, which began last month, is initially done by picking one player from each NHL team, along with two wild card entrants. Sharp defeated teammate Duncan Keith in that round and moved onto the round of 32, in which fans helped choose the 16 players that would make it into the bracket stage of the contest.

Sharp finished in that top 16 and ended up getting the #5 seed in his “bracket,” where he is facing off this week against Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. The balloting is expected to be close, with Bobrovsky endearing himself to fans this season with his stellar play that nearly helped the Blue Jackets to their first playoff berth in four years. Ultimately, they came up short, but Bobrovsky is still a Vezina Trophy finalist, given to the league’s best goaltender, and very well could be a nominee for the Hart Trophy, given to the league MVP.

As for Sharp, he has been a bit busy lately as well. He scored two goals for the Blackhawks in their Game 2 victory over the Minnesota Wild last Friday and followed that up with another two-goal performance on Tuesday to give the Blackhawks a 3-1 series lead over the Wild.

Since today is Thursday, all votes will count double for all players still in the running for the NHL 14 cover, so if you want to vote for Sharp, just follow this link to EA’s website, or you can go on Twitter and tweet using the hashtag #NHL14Sharp.

The results will be announced on Monday, and if Sharp is victorious, he will face off against either Taylor Hall of the Edmonton Oilers or Matt Duchene of the Colorado Avalanche.
