Patrick Kane Joins Exclusive Club With Splendid Sunday

Kane hit 100 points for the season, the first Blackhawks player to do so in 22 years

For the first time in over two decades, the Chicago Blackhawks have had a player reach the century mark in points, as Patrick Kane accomplished the feat on Sunday afternoon.

Kane did so in style, notching a hat trick in the first 25 minutes of action against the Boston Bruins at the United Center. He also added an assist on Artemi Panarin’s goal in the game, extending his NHL lead in points as he reached 100 for the season.

Kane is the first Blackhawks player to reach 100 points since Jeremy Roenick accomplished the feat during the 1993-94 season. Roenick ended up with 107 points on the year during that campaign, but it wasn’t enough as the Hawks were bounced from the playoffs by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

As for where Kane stands in NHL circles, he becomes just the third player to reach the century mark in points over the last five seasons. The only other two players to do so are Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby during that span.

Kane’s previous high for points in a season was 88, which he got during the 2009-10 season for the Blackhawks. Kane is still one assist shy of tying his career high in that category, which is 58 for a season.
