Northwestern head football coach Pat Fitzgerald has always parried aside interest from other colleges and NFL teams, but according to a new report, there could be a job opening that he may be interested in.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Fitzgerald is on the radar of the Green Bay Packers as they look for a head coach to replace the fired Mike McCarthy.
“Packers CEO Mark Murphy actually hired Fitzgerald when Murphy was AD at Northwestern,” he said. “While Fitzgerald has shut down countless interview requests from the NFL in the past, with a good sales pitch, this one may work.”

Fitzgerald has been successful in his career at Northwestern, racking up a record of 95-70 in 13 seasons at the school. His team has won three bowl games during his tenure, and will be going for a fourth when they take on Utah in the Holiday Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
Fitzgerald signed a 10-year contract extension with the Wildcats last spring.
