Facade Falls Off Apartment Building in Englewood Neighborhood

No injuries were immediately reported

A two-story building in the city’s Englewood neighborhood lost several concrete blocks off its facade Wednesday, causing several residents to be evacuated from the structure, the Chicago Fire Department said.

The incident occurred Wednesday morning in the 6000 block of South Racine, authorities said. The sidewalk around the building is blocked off as the city’s building department examines the structure.

According to the fire department, the Department of Buildings posted a warning on the building, saying the front exterior wall was in “dangerous and hazardous condition,” but tenants remained inside the structure.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
