Parking meter rates are on the rise in Chicago.
Per the city's 75-year concession agreement with Chicago Parking Meters LLC, street-metered rates are set to increase in 2012 by about 25 or 50 cents.
In the Loop, bordered by Lake Michigan, Wacker Drive and Congress Parkway, get ready to pay $5.75 per hour between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m.
In the Central Business District, bordered by Lake Michigan, North Avenue, Halsted Street and Roosevelt Road, rates will rise 50 cents to $3.50 per hour. Everywhere else will see a 25-cent bump to $1.75 per hour.
The transition begins in the Loop on Jan. 2 and moves outward to the rest of the city by the end of January.
"As the rate transition moves forward, the parking public is only responsible for paying the posted rate on the meters. Accordingly, only the posted rates on each meter/pay box will be enforced," according to a statement by Chicago Parking Meters LLC.
