The parents of a missing University of Colorado student are organizing a search for him along a popular hiking trail.
Police say 20-year-old Berry Tyler Allen, who goes by the name of Tyler, was last seen April 11 and last communicated with friends via text message last Thursday.
He is from the Chicago suburb of Western Springs and his parents are in Boulder to help search for him.
The search Wednesday was scheduled to take place along the Chautauqua Trail.
Family members said they were notified of Allen’s disappearance after his roommates called to tell them he hadn't been seen in a few days.
Sheryl Allen said her son had transferred to the school to be closer to the mountains. She said he often ventures in nature, but typically tells his family beforehand.
“He does seek solace in nature so if he did do something like that we know that the weather changed last weekend and we’re just worried that he may have gotten into a situation, but we don’t know even where he would have started going so it’s very difficult,” she said.
