Agromod Produce Inc., a produce company in Texas, is recalling the papayas due to a massive salmonella outbreak in the United States, including Illinois, according to theChicago Sun-Times.

Health officials tell the Sun-Times that at least 17 people got sick with salmonella poisoning in Illinois, including residents in Cook, DuPage, Kane and Will counties.

The health department reports at least 97 people were infected in 23 states between Jan. 1 and July 18, according to health officials.

The company said the papayas recalled are under the brands of Blondie, Yaya, Mañanita and Tastylicious.

State health officials recommend that consumers throw out the papayas or return them to the stores where they bought them.

Symptoms of salmonella may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
