The Chicago Bears are taking on the Carolina Panthers at Soldier Field Thursday night for their first preseason game, and we're keeping you up to date with all the action from the lakefront.
10:03 p.m.
The Bears have fallen 23-13 to the Panthers on Thursday night. Elijah Holyfield rushed for a pair of touchdowns in the victory.
8:44 p.m.
After a big 51-yard punt return by Terry Godwin, the Panthers took the lead early in the third quarter. Will Grier hit Elijah Holyfield for a 7-yard touchdown pass, putting the Panthers ahead 13-10 approximately two minutes into the half.
8:25 p.m.
We had our first real drama of this preseason's kicking competition, as Eddy Pineiro missed a field goal wide left from 48 yards, drawing boos from the Soldier Field crowd.

At the end of the first half, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera called a timeout, attempting to ice Fry before he attempted a 43-yard field goal. It didn't seem to rattle him, as he drilled home the field goal to end the half with the Bears on top by a score of 10-6.
7:58 p.m.
After giving up another short field goal, the Bears finally got off to their first good drive of the game at the halfway mark of the second quarter.
David Montgomery, the Bears' third-round pick in 2019, picked up a couple of first downs for Chicago, then scampered home on a touchdown run to tie the game at 6-6.
For those keeping up with the Bears' kicking derby: Elliott Fry made the extra point to give the Bears a 7-6 lead with about six minutes to go in the first half.
7:32 p.m.
The Bears' offense has been slow to get going, with Mitchell Trubisky only playing for three plays (all hand-offs to Mike Davis) before giving way to Chase Daniel.
The Panthers had a moderately successful second drive, but thanks to a few big plays from Deon Bush they were forced to settle for a field goal, making it 3-0 late in the frame.
6:53 p.m.
Three more players have been added to the list of guys fans won't get to see Thursday, including linebacker Aaron Lynch, wide receiver Emanuel Hall, and tight end Jesper Horsted.
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, none of the three players are in uniform during warmups.
5:45 p.m
The Chicago Bears announced a long list of players not expected to play on Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers, but one big-time star could be on the field, at least briefly, for the exhibition opener.
Before the game, the Bears provided a list of players who will not see action in the game, but one notable omission was that of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, meaning that he could potentially play in the opening minutes of the contest.
It’s possible that Trubisky may not suit up, but his exclusion from the list would seem to indicate that he could play a series or two before handing off the reins to quarterback Chase Daniel.
Other big stars, including offensive lineman Kyle Long, defensive lineman Akiem Hicks, and linebacker Khalil Mack are not expected to play in the game, according to the team. Safety Eddie Jackson and cornerback Kyle Fuller will also likely not see action in the game.
