Palos Heights Student Arrested After Posting Photos of AK-47, Threatening School: Sheriff

A student at a high school in suburban Palos Heights was arrested Sunday for posting a threat on social media with a photo in which he was posing with an AK-47, authorities said.

The 15-year-old freshman at Alan B. Shepard High School posted multiple images of himself with the gun on Snapchat, at least one of which had a caption with an apparent threat toward the school, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives were notified of the photos Sunday afternoon, and he was taken into custody that evening at his home in Worth, Sheriff's office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said.

No weapons were found at his home, authorities said, and detectives learned that the photos were taken at a separate location. The weapon was legally owned by the person who lived at that location, according to Ansari.

He was charged as a juvenile with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, officials said.
