Former Palos Heights Music Teacher Accused of Sex With Student

Kenneth Martin, 34, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to Palos Heights police

A former music teacher at a Chicago Christian High School in Palos Heights was being held Tuesday on $100,000 bond, accused of having inappropriate relationships with two female students in 2009.

Kenneth Martin, 34, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to Palos Heights police.

The students, one of whom was 16 years old at the time of the alleged relationship, reportedly told police about the tryst in April 2012. Martin's legal name at the time was Kenneth Whitney, authorities said.

Officials from the school said Martin stopped being a teacher in the summer of 2009.

"As soon as school officials became aware of this allegation against our former employee, the matter was reported to the authorities and we have been cooperating with the investigation. The individual has not been employed by our school since 2009," school officials said in a statement.

Deputy Police Chief Dave Delaney said that while authorities believe Martin had sex with two students, he’s only being charged in one case because the other victim is not cooperating.
