Teen Shot on Pace Bus

Man in "stable" condition at South Side hospital. No other passengers injured.

An 18-year-old man was shot Friday after boarding a Pace bus in the Ashburn neighborhood on the South Side.

The victim was shot by an unknown offender about 5 p.m. after boarding the Route 349 Pace bus on the 7900 block of Western Avenue, according to Pace spokesman Patrick Wilmot.

The man was involved in an altercation outside the bus, Wilmot said. After he boarded the bus, another person followed him aboard and shot him. None of the 15 other passengers on the bus were injured.

The victim was taken in "stable" condition to Holy Cross Hospital, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.

The man was shot in the right thigh and ankle, according to police News Affairs Officer Anne Dwyer.

A motive is unclear and Dwyer was unsure if anyone was in custody.
