Over 40,000 Residents Left Without Power After Severe Storms

Over 40,000 residents in Northern Illinois are without power after a line of severe thunderstorms spawned numerous warnings and did damage to several towns and communities.

According to ComEd, nearly 18,000 people in Will County are without power after the storms, which rolled through the area on Sunday afternoon. Just under 14,000 residents in DuPage County are also without power thanks to the severe weather.

Around 3500 residents in Kankakee and McHenry counties also lost power, according to the utility company.

Customers are encouraged to call 1-800-EDISON1 if they encounter downed power lines, or if they need the utility company to disconnect power in the event of a flooded basement.

Customers can also check the status of outages in their area by texting the word “OUT” to 26633, or by visiting the company’s website.
