Over 100 Sears and Kmart stores will close their doors as part of another strategic move by the company, Sears Holdings announced Thursday.
In total, 64 Kmart stores and 39 Sears stores will close by early-April, the company says, and the effects will be felt all across the country.
“We will continue to close some unprofitable stores as we transform our business model so that our physical store footprint and our digital capabilities match the needs and preferences of our members,” the company said in an announcement of the closures.
In Illinois, three Kmart locations will close:
- Route 149 West, West Frankfort, IL
- 3404 Broadway Street, Mt. Vernon, IL
- 1321 Sandy Hollow Road, Rockford, IL
Indiana store locations in Indianapolis and Bloomington will also close their doors, the company announced.
Three Illinois Sears locations will also shut down, with all three locations set to close up shop in early April:
- 1602 North State Route 50, Bourbonnais, IL
- Orland Square Mall, Orland Park, IL
- 3000 West DeYoung Street, Marion, IL
According to the company, eligible associates at each store will receive severance pay, and will also have the opportunity to apply at other company store locations.
Liquidation sales will begin as early as Jan. 12 at the affected stores, the company said.
