Outbound Metra BNSF trains were running with delays Monday morning after a freight train struck a vehicle in west suburban Hinsdale.
At 7:22 a.m., a 53-year-old woman was driving a 2004 Nissan Murano SUV on Lincoln Street in Hinsdale when she approached a grade crossing near the West Hinsdale station and saw warning devices indicating a train was coming, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller and Hinsdale police.
She stopped her car just beyond the gate stop line and got out of the vehicle when she saw an approaching train, which struck the front end of her vehicle, authorities said. No injuries were reported.
The vehicle was towed from the scene as of 9:22 a.m., police said.
Outbound trains were running again around 8:50 a.m. with 30- to 70-minute delays, according to Metra.
Inbound trains were halted for about 40 minutes after the incident before being allowed to start moving again and were running about 30 minutes behind, according to Metra. But inbound train No. 1370, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:58 a.m., was canceled, according to Metra.
