One Dead After Five-Vehicle Crash Involving RV on I-80

A 65-year-old man died in a five-vehicle crash involving an RV on Interstate-80 in the southwest suburbs Sunday morning.

The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of I-80 in Joliet at about 11:25 a.m., according to Illinois State Police. Five vehicles, including an RV, were involved in the crash.

The 65-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet pickup truck that crossed from the westbound lanes of the highway into oncoming traffic near the Chicago Street exit, Illinois State Police Sgt. Chris Wilkes said.

The Joliet resident’s truck hit a mobile home and four other vehicles, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Wilkes said. The Will County coroner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

Two people from one of the other vehicles were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and were released Sunday afternoon, state police said.

The driver of the pickup was at fault and no citations will be issued, police said.
