The old Cook County Hospital building, located in the 1800 block of West Harrison Street in Chicago, was closed in 2002.
The site is on the National Register of Historic Places, but has languished vacant, without a plan, for 16 years.
But on Tuesday, the Civic Health Development Group officially broke ground on a $1 billion effort to renovate the site.
Take a look at the building before it's completely revitalized.
