Traffic Reopens at O'Hare After Bomb Squad Checks Out ‘Unattended Package,' Police Say

Vehicular and pedestrian traffic was halted for about two hours Thursday night at O'Hare International Airport as police investigated and "unattended package," authorities said.

Officers responded to the call to examine the curbside area at Lower Level 1E about 9:13 p.m., police said. The area was secured by the Bomb Squad and vehicular and pedestrian traffic was closed off, police said. The scene was cleared shortly before midnight and traffic was reopened, police said.

Blue Line trains were stopped about and the power was killed from the Pulaski stop to the Forest Park stop. Trains were running again by 10:40 p.m.

Several people at the airport shared pictures and video of the Bomb Squad and expressed confusion and concern. One Twitter user shared video of what appeared to be a bomb technician clad in a thick protective suit, approaching the bag outside of the terminal.

“What's going on at #ord #ohare Chicago Airport?” one traveler tweeted. “Lots of police at the exits and TSA and law enforcement blocking several exits.”

“Update: on top of it all, Ohaire (sic) just had a bomb threat so we’re now all stuck in a weird smelly room with birds flying around inside,” another tweeted.
