Hundreds Turn Out for Officer Flisk Fundraiser

Three Chicago Blackhawks were among the hundreds of people who attended a Wednesday night benefit for the family of slain Chicago Police officer Michael Flisk.

The benefit was held from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Police Chicago Lodge 7, at 1412 W. Washington Blvd., in Chicago.

About 500 people were at the event, including Chicago Blackhawks players Patrick Kane, Brent Seabrook and Dave Bolland.

"I think for us to show, you know, take a few pictures, sign a few autographs, it probably means a lot to these people and it goes a long way," said Kane.

Mayoral hopeful Rahm Emanuel also attended, spending much of the time speaking with guests.

"I had a family member, an uncle, who served 25 years in the Chicago police department.  They do a wonderful job every day and it's a small token way of saying 'thank you,'" he said.

The event included food and drink, and all the proceeds will be given to Flisk's family, a police evidence technician fatally shot while processing a crime scene last Friday in the 8100 block of South Burnham Avenue. Former CHA police officer Stephen Peters was also killed in the attack.

Timothy Herring Jr. has been charged in the murders, while Timothy Willis was charged with allegedly hiding the murder weapon.

"There is great showing and support for the family," said Caballero. "This is something the department really needs."

Flisk’s funeral was held Wednesday on the South Side.
