Obama Reveals His Top Books, Movies and Songs of 2018

As expected, Obama wrote that his favorite book of 2018 was “Becoming,” a memoir written by his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama

Former President Barack Obama continued his annual tradition of sharing year-end lists and on Friday revealed his favorite books, movies and songs of 2018.

“It gives me a moment to pause and reflect on the year through the books, movies, and music that I found most thought-provoking, inspiring, or just plain loved,” he wrote on Facebook. “It also gives me a chance to highlight talented authors, artists, and storytellers – some who are household names and others who you may not have heard of before.”

As expected, Obama wrote that his favorite book of 2018 was “Becoming,” a memoir written by his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama. Other books on the list included Educated by Tara Westover, Long Walk of Freedom by Nelson Mandela, An American Marriage by Tayari Jones and several others.

His noted movies included hits like Black Panther and Won’t You Be My Neighbor.

Chicagoans will likely recognize some of his top songs, which included My Own Thing by beloved city star Chance the Rapper and Turnin’ Me Up by BJ the Chicago Kid. Other songs like I like It by Cardi B and Make Me Feel by Janelle Monae. It also included tributes like Thre Great American Songbook by Nancy Wilson, who he called “one of the great jazz singers of all time,” and Mary Don’t You Weep by Prince.
