Exelon, Microsoft Among Donors to Obama Foundation

Seven-figure donations are flowing in to build the Obama Presidential Center on Chicago’s South Side.

The Obama Foundation released the names of more than 700 donors over the last three months on Friday, highlighting eight individual contributions of more than $1 million apiece.

Among those top-dollar donors were Microsoft and Exelon corporations, as well as LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman and his wife Michelle Yee.

While the total amount of the donations was not released, architects for the center reportedly said in February that the project will need an endowment of $1.5 billion. [[421181154, C]]

Former President Barack Obama’s library, museum and community center is planned for Jackson Park on the city’s South Side, where he raised his family and launched his career.

Renderings of the center show three buildings, including a tower-like museum and tree-lined walkways.

The center could span up to 225,000 square feet and will include a public plaza, ample green space and classrooms, foundation officials said.

It's scheduled to open in 2021.
