Woman Carjacked Outside Oakbrook Center Mall

A woman was carjacked at gunpoint Wednesday in the parking lot of the Oakbrook Center Mall, police said.

The crime occurred about 9:36 a.m. as the woman, 68, was waiting in her Honda Civic before her heading into a work at one of the mall’s stores. A white Toyota Camry, which was reported stolen out of Maywood, blocked her in her parking space, police said. A male suspect got out of the Camry, opened the victim’s car door and flashed a gun while demanding she get out, according to Oak Brook police.

The woman got out of her car, grabbed her purse from the back seat and began to run, but the gunman caught up to her and snagged the purse before returning to the car, police said.

Each car was driven from the scene in an unknown direction by two separate suspects, police said.
