$15,000 Worth of iPads Stolen From Oak Park School District Offices

47 tablets swiped from server room over two-month period, officials say

Nearly $15,000 worth of iPad Minis vanished from a west suburban school district's administrative offices during a two-month period over the summer, officials said.

The 47 tablets, valued at $14,523, were stolen between June 25 and Aug. 29 from the Oak Park Elementary School District 97 offices, at 970 W. Madison St., between June 25 and Aug. 29.

"We’ve been working very closely with District 97 officials,” Oak Park police Cmdr. LaDon Reynolds said, according to Pioneer Press. "They’re cooperating fully. We have detectives assigned working the case. They’re going through the investigative process."

The iPad Minis, purchased for use by low-income students, were stored in the district’s server room, to which multiple employees had access. Until the incident, the room was left open during business hours to allow technology staff easy access, district spokesman Chris Jasculca said.

Since the theft was reported to police in September, District 97 has secured the room and was in the process of installing a system requiring employees to swipe an ID to enter and exit the room, he said.
