Notre Dame Selected for College Football Playoff

The University of Notre Dame has made history Sunday as they have become the first independent team to be selected for the College Football Playoff.

The Fighting Irish finished off an undefeated 12-0 season with a triumph over USC a week ago, and now they will be one of four teams that will have the opportunity to take home the National Championship.

Notre Dame ended up with the number three seed in the playoff, and will play second-seeded Clemson at the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas on Dec. 29.

Alabama earned the number one seed, and chose to take on number four Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl in Miami.

The Irish boast one of the country’s best defenses, giving up the ninth-fewest points per game at 17.2. Their offense took off once Ian Book was installed as the team’s starting quarterback, and he finished the regular season with 2,468 passing yards and 19 touchdowns.

Dexter Williams has also been a monster all year long for Notre Dame, rushing for 941 yards and 12 touchdowns.
