A Northwest Side man is Cook County’s 17th cold-related death of the season, authorities said.
Geraldo Delgado, 55, was pronounced dead at Community First Medical Center at 4:14 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy found that Delgado, who lived in the 5500 block of West fullerton, died of hypothermia and cold exposure, according to the medical examiner’s office. Chronic alcoholism was listed as a contributing factor.
His death was ruled an accident.
Delgado’s death is the 17th confirmed cold-related fatality this season in Cook County, according to a spokesman for the medical examiner’s office. During the 2013-14 winter season, there were 32 confirmed cold-related deaths.
