2 Arrested After North Side Robbery, Crash and South Side Standoff

Two people were arrested early Thursday after authorities said they robbed a woman at gunpoint on Chicago's North Side, and were followed by police to the South Side where they engaged in a standoff with SWAT teams.

The incident began at around 11 p.m. Wednesday night in the 800 block of West Fletcher Street in the city's Lake View neighborhood, according to police.

Authorities said two suspects, a male and a female, robbed a 52-year-old woman at gunpoint on a sidewalk in front of a residence, taking her purse, cell phone and the keys to her van.

The suspects were then spotted in the van near Lake Shore Drive and West Belmont Avenue, according to police, who said officers followed the vehicle to the Englewood neighborhood, where the van was involved in a crash in the vicinity of the 6600 block of South Bishop Street.

The suspects then fled into a building nearby, where police said they refused to come out for several hours. Early Thursday, police said a SWAT team entered the building and took the two suspects into custody. Further details, including their identities, were not immediately available.

No injuries were reported in the incident, according to police, who continue to investigate.
