Chicago Area to End 2018 on Soggy Note

Some portions of northern Illinois could see a wintry mix heading into the evening hours

The Chicago area will likely ring in the New Year on a wet and soggy note, but there is some good news for revelers.

Rain, some of it heavy at times, is expected to continue falling throughout the day on New Year's Eve. It will likely taper to drizzles and possibly a few flurries by midnight for many, however.

Some portions of northern Illinois could see a wintry mix heading into the evening hours. This could make for slippery road conditions for those traveling for holiday events.

Temperature highs will stay in the mid-30s and low-40s. The low for New Year's Eve will be around 29 degrees.

The New Year looks to begin on a cloudy note with a slight chance for light snow. Temperature highs are expected hover around 30 degrees.

The remainder of the week will likely be partly cloudy with temperature highs ranging from 25 degrees to near 40.
