New Jumbo Jet Lands at O'Hare

Boeing's new B747-8 landed in the U.S. for the first time Tuesday night.

There's a new big kid on the tarmac.

The first Boeing B747-8 aircraft landed at O'Hare Thursday night, marking the first time the company's largest plane landed at a U.S. commercial airport.

The plane, which arrived in Chicago at approximately 9:40 p.m., is a cargo freighter operated by British Airways World Cargo. It landed in Chicago following its flight from London Stansted airport via Frankfurt.

In September, O'Hare received approval from the FAA for the B747-8 to operate at the airport.

Boeing began delivering the Freighter model of its B747-8 to private airlines last month. The company is expected to deliver its first B747-8 intercontinental passenger aircraft to Lufthansa in early 2012. The intercontinental version will seat 467 passengers in a three-class configuration.
