New Cubs Pitcher Makes Great First Impression With Hilarious Bryce Harper Joke

Barnette signed a one-year deal with the Cubs on Friday

The Chicago Cubs signed relief pitcher Tony Barnette on Friday, and he’s already proven that he’s got a great sense of humor.

Barnette, who inked a one-year contract with the club, took to social media to say hello to Cubs fans, and he addressed some “concerns” that many fans have:

“My family and I are thrilled to get this year started with the Cubs,” Barnette tweeted. “(Reads first comment) also, I’d like to apologize my name doesn’t rhyme with……tarper.”

The joke is a reference to the irritation of Cubs fans who are not satisfied with the team’s offseason moves, including a seeming reluctance to go after big ticket free agents like outfielder Bryce Harper.

If Barnette’s season is as good as his sense of humor, he should be in good shape. He posted a 2.39 ERA in 22 games last season with the Texas Rangers, and has a career 11-4 record and 3.50 ERA in 125 games pitched.
