New City Program Offers Incentive to Make Apps and Earn Seed Money

We aren't the only ones who thought learning how to make and market apps is a worthwhile and valuable enterprise.

In a press release issued Friday, the Metro Chicago Information Center announced a contest, Apps For Metro Chicago, that will reward up to $10,000 for folks who find creative and functional uses for datasets the city has now made available.

The datasets range from balance sheets and projection reports on all tax increment finance districts in the city to tourism information from DCEO.

There's loads more there, and the contest will take place over six months, ending December 16. But don't drag your heels too much: Submissions for the first round, apps for transportation, won't be taken past August 15 at 11:59 p.m. If you're looking for some sizable seed money and incentive to practice app-making, this should most definitely qualify.
