Teen Accused of Smoking Pot Outside Police Chief's Home

Villa Park's police chief last month allegedly made a pot bust right outside his home.

Robert Pavelchik said he was heading home on Sept. 13 when he saw 18-year-old Max Salling and a friend smoking marijuana in a car.

"I like to say I know most of my neighbors and friends, so I got out of my car with a flashlight in one hand and I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’” Pavelchik recalled. "They’re blowing dope when I come home from work, right in front of my house. ... I smell the dope and I see the (smoking) pipe and the bag of dope on the floor, what we call in plain view."

Pavelchik said he held the two men until Naperville officers could take them away. It was Salling's third arrest in seven months on drug charges, police said.

Naperville police Sgt. Gregg Bell said Salling's friend was released without charges. Salling is been held in DuPage County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
