2 Killed in Naperville House Fire

Three others injured -- one critically -- in fire on the 1200 block of Field Court in the west suburb

Two people were killed and three others injured in a Wednesday morning fire in west suburban Naperville, officials said.

Tom and Jan Lambert were identified as the victims of the fire that swept thigh their home on the 1200 block of Field Court.

"It's very tragic," family friend Lee Thomsen said.

Crews were called to the two-story, single-family home shortly before 7 a.m. Responding firefighters found the house engulfed in flames. They were able to go into the house to get some people out.

"Shortly after [a resident] was rescued from the second floor, firefighters were pulled from the building for fear of collapse," Naperville Fire Department Bureau Chief Mark Thurow said.

Injuries to two people -- an 84-year-old man and his 56-year-old daughter -- were considered to be not life-threatening but a third person, a 21-year-old man, was transported to Edward Hospital in Naperville and listed in critical condition.

The fire appeared under control by about 8:15 a.m., although responders were seen carrying what appeared to be breathing apparatus into and away from the house during the hour that followed.

Backup was provided by Bolingbrook, Downers Grove and Westmont fire departments, among others.
