After Two Years, Stabbing of 9-Year-Old Remains Unsolved

Family, friends hold vigil, press for continued search for Mya Lyons' killer

The family of a 9-year-old girl who died two years ago gathered Wednesday night to keep the keep the young girl's memory alive and to press the search for her killer.

Richard Lyons found his daughter, Mya, in an alley near his home with stab wounds to her neck and abdomen.

"Not a day goes by that I don't hurt for my daughter, but just knowing that the person who is responsible for my daughter's murder is still out here, that's what's devastating to me," said Mya Lyons' mother, Ericka Barnes.

Days after the girl's funeral, a bloody knife was found in the alley. A "person of interest" was questioned, but police later ruled the man out as a suspect.

"The investigation is still ongoing,” Chicago Police spokesman Roderick Drew told The Chicago Defender.
