Police are searching for a driver who mowed down 19 Canadian Geese as they tried to cross a street in Mundelein over the weekend.
The Mundelein Police Department posted a plea for help on Facebook Tuesday, asking residents to help them find a driver who was traveling southbound on Midlothian Road near Cambridge Road around 5:15 p.m. on Sunday.
According to authorities the unknown vehicle “struck these geese then fled the area.” The geese were killed in the incident, police said.
“These birds are protected migratory birds and if intentionally struck offenders could be fined by the Illinois Department of Natural resources,” the department wrote in their post.
Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to call the department at (847) 968-4699 or email them at MPD@mundelein.org.
