Mount Prospect Man Wins $1M in Lottery

Retailer received a $10,000 bonus

A Mount Prospect man has won $1 million in an October Powerball lottery drawing.

"It’s true, you only need one ticket to win the lottery," said Bradley Virta of Warrenville, according to a release from the Illinois Lottery.

He discovered his win after checking the numbers on the Illinois Lottery’s website. An occasional player, Virta matched the first five numbers — 09 – 33 – 54 – 56 – 57 – (05) — in the Oct. 19, 2013 Powerball drawing, the release said. He purchased the ticket at a 7-Eleven store at 606 West North Highway in Mount Prospect.

"I waited to get some professional financial advice before I claimed my prize," Virta said.

He plans to use the funds to buy a house and invest for retirement, the release said.

The store received a $10,000 bonus, 1 percent of the jackpot amount.
