Mount Prospect Allows Liquor in Movie Theaters

Theaters must apply and be approved for a liquor license

Mount Prospect is now a brew-and-view community -- at least when it comes to watching movies.

Village Board members narrowly approved a new ordinance to allow liquor sales inside movie theaters within village limits, according to the Daily Herald.

The debate whether to approve the measure went on for more than two hours Wednesday night before it was approved in a 4-3 vote. Several board members voiced concerns that if approved, the potential for underage drinking would increase.

Right now, AMC is the only movie theater in the village. Theater officials asked the board last year if they could serve alcohol inside the new facility they're building across the street from their existing location near Randhurst Mall. The new theater opens at the end of the month.

Theaters must apply and be granted a liquor license before they pull the tapper.

Those drinking inside the theater must wear wristbands and will only be allowed to purchase one drink at a time.
