Mother of 4 Shot to Death, Police Question Person of Interest

A 25-year-old woman was shot to death Saturday morning in her apartment in South Chicago Heights.

Nicole De Leon, a mother of four, was found dead in her home at 9:28 a.m. in the 2800 block of Chicago Road. The South Chicago Heights Fire Department responded after a family friend noticed the apartment door was open and went inside to find De Leon’s body, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office and the South Chicago Heights police department.

An autopsy conducted Sunday found De Leon died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and her death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Police were questioning a person of interest Sunday evening,  according to Chief of Police Bill Joyce.

The department was conducting an ongoing homicide investigation, Joyce said.
