A mother was taken into custody Sunday morning after authorities found three children living alone in deplorable conditions on Chicago's North Side.
A 3-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy and a 7-year-old boy were discovered alone, without adult supervision inside an apartment building in the 5000 block of North Harding Avenue in the Albany Park neighborhood, after police said they received a tip from concerned citizens.
Officials said the children were living in contained mold conditions with rodent droppings. Rotting food was also found inside the home, which police say appeared to have no working electricity.

An ambulance transported the children to Swedish Covenant Hospital for an overall health assessment. Police said Sunday they’re in good condition.
Charges for 31-year-old, Maria Cortez, include three misdemeanor counts of child endangerment, said Chicago Police.
Cortez was released on a recognizance bond, police said. Her next court date was set for July 10.
